Maimulu, a young Nuragic warrior is carrying out an ancient ritual at a sacred well. The moon aligns and as he gazes at the nightsky he is seized by a terrifying vision. Danger is coming from the sea.  A priest advises him to to the nearby Phoenician-Punic city of Tharros. Here he meets Phoenician merchants who confirm that the enemy is sailing towards the island. He return to his village to embrace his wife and son before leaving on a journey that he may never return from.

After leaving his family he raises the alarm to warn the whole community.

As with Hadrian's wall, the fire carries a message that makes itself visible by bouncing from one nuraghe to another. Now that the community has been alerted, Maimulu goes to the Gorrupu canyon purify himself in the waters of this natural cathedral, so he may emerge come pure and ready for battle. Immediately his sword is tested by vicious savages. 

Maimulu slashes through his enemy with a level of expertise that demonstrates that he belongs to a superior warrior elite. As evening approaches he is united with other village leaders, alerted by the fire signals. These await him outside the meeting hut, lit with a circle of torches. Inside they come together to decide how to deal with the threat. At the end of the meeting, Maimulu leaves to cross the mountains in solitude towards the other side of the island, where he must fight to save his civilisation.

It is a silent journey, Maimulu is accompanied only by nature. It is a physical journey but also an interior, spiritual one. Maimulu crosses valleys and climbs ridges, reaching the summit in an almost alien, lunar environment. Only the bare rock accompanies his journey until the mountain returns to the sea. It is here where we see dozens of Roman ships in the distance approaching, while many nuragic ships wait along the coast, ready for battle. Other warriors begin to show themselves, emerging from the vegetation. The whole community is present for the battle. Maimulu draws his sword and points it before him. The frame shoots up to the sky and shows the borders of the island as it is hit by this storm of conflict and destruction, the epic battle begins.
