This film explores the lives of Rome’s Anglophone residents. All arrived from countries such as the UK, the US and Australia – places that conversely see huge numbers of Italian arrivals, all seeking a more stable future and some professional satisfaction.

Many thousands of Expats pour into Italy every year seeking this allusive lifestyle where the quality of life is famously attractive. The issue is that whilst Italy does offer a great deal, it is also a country fraught with corruption, absurdly high taxes, bureaucratic inefficiency and economic stagnancy.

Could you be happy in a place that was beautiful but that forced you to give up your professional dreams? Could you accept a lack of security and financial stability because at least the food is wonderful? What happens if you fall in love and have children then decide you want to return to your home country? After decades abroad where is home?

Now is a time when a great many of us uproot and start new lives elsewhere, the theme is universal and we are also living in with great uncertainty in which many of us our asking ourselves questions about what should define our lives, where we find happiness and how we can achieve our goals. The Expats in this film are each at varying phases of their lives and each offers a unique story within this context.
